Turkey, turkey, turkey day is here. And while it was a logistical challenge – we were able to get 10 turkeys into the hands of organizations ready to cook it up and serve it to individuals in need this year. We donated 4 turkeys to the Lighthouse Mission, which runs a soup kitchen in downtown Christiansted; 3 to Foundation Ministries, which was planning a Thanksgiving meal distribution for the community; and 3 to the Boys and Girls Club of the Virgin Islands for a Thanksgiving meal with their children members and their families.

We wish we could have delivered turkeys to the whole island, but with most people lacking refrigeration, dealing in non-perishable foods is not realistic at the moment. So we decided to bring them to the organizations who were prepared to cook them right away and serve them up to the community.

But of course we couldn’t leave the general public out of the equation. We wanted to spread the Thanksgiving joy as much as possible. So we asked you, the Cane Bay Cares community, for support and donations so we could purchase non-perishable Thanksgiving fixings for general distribution.

Thanks to your help, we were able to deliver Thanksgiving fixings for about 750 St. Croix residents. They received overflowing bags with stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans and macaroni and cheese.

This Thanksgiving, we’re thankful to all of you – our donors and supporters who see the value in this cause and who continue to give and spread the word so we can continue this work. We’re also Thankful for St. Croix – for all the resilient people who push through despite the challenges. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.
